Systems Over Chaos

Weekly essays exploring how broken democracies fracture, and what chaos teaches us about renewal.

About me

I’m Spencer, a student at Indiana University Bloomington obsessed with the hinge points of democratic decline, and eager to imagine what comes next. In my nonfiction work, I analyze the policy failures and power grabs that destabilize our institutions, and imagine a better world we can build, together.

Why Subscribe?

This is a newsletter for people who want to understand why systems fail, and how we might still build something better.

Each week, I dig into the deeper structures behind today's political chaos, from democratic backsliding to economic disillusionment. These are deep dives with historical memory, policy vision, and the occasional swipe at billionaires, fascists, and broken institutions.

Alongside political analysis, I’m building a series of essays, under the title “Systems Over Chaos” that explores how we can rewire the incentive structures that define our world to work towards values of equality, justice, and liberty, instead of for those who already control the power.
